What To Expect
The tour commences in a small mountain village situated at an altitude exceeding 1,000 metres. We proceed on foot through orchards and fields until we reach the upper reaches of the impressive gorge, which we then descend through a verdant forest of laurel trees and heather. We are accompanied by a rich variety of flora and fauna. We observe the geological evidence of past volcanic activity and gain insight into how the landscape has evolved over time. A natural balcony provides visitors with unparalleled views of the coastline. We proceed along the rim of the canyon, passing by disused settlements that were once home to muleteers who traversed this route with their livestock. The sound of running water and the presence of ancient pipes indicate the existence of underground galleries. At a crossroads, we observe a large centennial laurel tree and extensive volcanic caves. This location offers an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the island’s geological history and its evolution over millions of years. At the end of the walk, we crossed vegetable gardens and banana plantations to reach a typical village where we shared our impressions of this extraordinary experience.
